Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can anyone enroll in QuitWorks? A: QuitWorks is open to all Massachusetts residents, regardless of health insurance status.
Q: Is there any cost to the patient or the hospital/health center/practice for QuitWorks services? A: QuitWorks services are funded through the Massachusetts Health Department. There is no cost to the patient or the referring provider, office practice or the hospital/health center for basic QuitWorks services and materials (QuitWorks enrollment forms, patient counseling services and education materials, and patient status reports). If a hospital, health center or large practice would like a customized QuitWorks program, the QuitWorks team will consult with your staff free of charge.

Q: How will I know how the patient is doing in his/her efforts to quit tobacco use once enrolled in QuitWorks? A: QuitWorks will send up to two status reports to the provider designated to receive reports. The first faxed report is sent to the provider within several weeks of receiving the patient enrollment form. We’ll tell you if we reached your patient and services they requested. Then in seven to eight months if we reach your patient again, we’ll tell you if their quit status.
Q: If a patient returns to the practice or health care facility at a later date and reveals that he/she has started smoking again but wants to stop, can that patient be re-enrolled in the QuitWorks program? A: Yes, it often takes many attempts to quit smoking. You can re-enroll your patient and QuitWorks will reach out to them again.
